----------------------------------------

The Bradford accent is famous around England for missing letters of the alphabet. E.g. Bradford has added a T and U and missed the O and R to make "Bratfud". Another couple of examples are the villages of Allerton which starts with the O sound "Ollerton" and Wibsey which replaced the B with a P "Wipsey". Shops such as M&S and Boots have added 'is' on the end. M&S is Marksis and Boots is Bootsis.

Bit of Bradford History

"The Brigantes" were recorded in history as the aboriginal inhabitants of the Bradford area.

In Saxon times Bradford was a small village by a river crossing called a ford, Brad meant Broad. It became known as the village with the Broad Ford. As the village began to grow, the people were allowed to have a weekly market. And it soon became a busy town.
In the Domesday book 1086, Bradford had less than 1000 people.
